The Shard laser show, London
On Thursday, 05/07/2012, the completion of the exterior of the Shard, a glacial pinnacle looming over London Bridge, was celebrated with a laser show.
12 lasers and 30 search lights shone across central London accompanied byCopland’s Fanfare for the Common Man and the Finale from Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite performed live by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
The tower, designed by Renzo Piano, is the tallest building in Europe and will house shops, offices, a Shangri-La hotel, apartments and a public viewing platform near the top with views stretching for 40 miles on clear days.
Criticised for being an oasis for the mega-rich- partly due to its co-ownership by the Qatari Royal family- it certainly makes a striking addition to the city’s skyline.
