The Conference Hall- Las Vegas Convention Center

Like the airport and mall, the Conference Hall/Convention Center is an architectural type that symbolises the ‘non-place’ prevalent in contemporary architecture which services a global market.

The Las Vegas Convention Center is one of the largest in the world with 3,200,000 sq ft of space.  It is adjacent to the Las Vegas Hilton and the Renaissance Las Vegas Hotel, and is accessible from the ubiquitous Monorail.

Since its conception in 1959 as a 6,300 seater silver-domed rotunda which hosted the likes of the Beatles, the center has been demolished and remodelled numerous times to expand its floor space.

The exterior- could be an airport or a mall?

Cavernous interior spaces

A monorail always add a futuristic edge.

Planned expansion in 2007- note the ‘dynamic’ forms on the facade.
