Seville 92 – The abandoned Expo

The theme of the Seville expo in 1992 was “The Age of Discovery”. Over 100 countries were represented at a large site Isla de la Cartuja, reputed site of reference for Columbus for his voyage to the New World. Expo 92 is known as one of the largest (in terms of area 215 hectors) there has ever been, requiring several days to visit all of the pavillions.

At the conclusion of the expo the site was left to become a derelict space, a fascinating relic of the fanciful vision of futuristic architecture. Some of the site has now been taken over by La Isla Magica, however it’s still possible to wander through the empty avenues and pavillions.
